Caitlin Clark Sidelined for Season with Groin Injury Indiana Fever Face Tough Finish
Caitlin Clark, the standout guard for the Indiana Fever, will not return to the court this season after suffering a right groin injury, according to an AP report.
Clark, who exited the July 15 matchup against the Connecticut Sun with the injury, later developed a bone bruise that ultimately cut her second WNBA season short. Despite weeks of recovery efforts, medical staff and head coach Stefanie White confirmed that Clark’s timeline does not allow for a safe comeback before season’s end.
“I had hoped for better news, but unfortunately I won’t be back this season,” Clark said in a statement. “I spent hours in the gym every day trying to recover. While this is heartbreaking, I’m grateful for the support of fans and proud of how the Indiana Fever have stayed strong through adversity.”
The 2024 Rookie of the Year was averaging 16.5 points, 8.8 assists, and 5 rebounds across 13 games before the setback. She had been participating in warmups without contact, but White revealed she was never cleared for full practice drills.
“Caitlin has worked tirelessly to return,” White said. “Her health comes first, and we expect her full recovery in time for the 2026 season.”
The injury is a significant blow for the Indiana Fever, who are currently eighth in the standings, holding a slim lead over Los Angeles with three games left in the regular season. The team has been plagued by injuries this year, losing five players, including Clark, Sydney Colson, Aari McDonald, Sophie Callington, and Chlo Bibi.
