After a £900,000 deal, Derby County is looking to sign another midfield player.

Derby County is poised to expand their midfield options with the permanent signing of Ebou Adams from Cardiff City, as per recent reports.

In recent weeks, it became widely known that Derby were eager to re-sign the Gambian midfielder following his successful loan spell last season. Adams moved to Pride Park in January from Cardiff on a temporary basis, making 17 appearances in League One and contributing significantly to Paul Warne’s team securing automatic promotion to the Championship.

During the season’s closing fixture, as Derby secured promotion to England’s second tier with a 2-0 victory over Carlisle United, the 28-year-old earned the Man of the Match accolade. Supporters at the home ground expressed their desire for him to remain with a chant of “We want you to stay.”

Adams hinted at his desire to return to the club this summer, stating, “It’s never goodbye from me. I don’t know where I’m going to be.” These quotes were reported by BBC Sport.

It appears that Derby County are on the verge of fulfilling the fans’ wishes. According to John Percy of The Telegraph, the club is nearing a permanent deal to acquire Ebou Adams from Cardiff City for just under £1 million. Darren Witcoop further confirmed that the official figure is £900,000, and Adams is expected to complete his return to Derby sometime next week.

In addition to Adams, Derby has already secured Kenzo Goudmijn from AZ Alkmaar and free-agent Ben Osborn. Despite these signings, Witcoop reports that the club remains active in the transfer market and is keen to add another midfielder to their squad.
