Legendary drummer Bill Ward, a founding member of the iconic heavy metal band Black Sabbath, has recently shared insights into his health struggles and his relationship with the band in an emotional interview. Ward, now 76, opened up about the challenges he’s faced over the years and reflected on the possibility of reuniting with his former bandmates.
Ward revealed that his health has been a significant hurdle in recent years, particularly when it comes to performing at the level expected of a Black Sabbath drummer. “I’ve dealt with a few heart issues and other complications over the past decade,” he said. “The physical demands of drumming in Black Sabbath’s music are immense. I’ve had to listen to my body more than ever.”
Despite these challenges, Ward remains deeply connected to the music and legacy of Black Sabbath. “I still play every day,” he shared. “It’s part of who I am. Even if I’m not on stage, the music is in my blood.”
When asked about the possibility of reuniting with Black Sabbath for a future performance or project, Ward expressed cautious optimism. “I’d love to play with the guys again, even if it’s just one song or a small gig,” he said. “But it has to feel right for everyone, and my health has to hold up. I’ll never rule it out, but it’s not something I can commit to lightly.”
Ward also addressed his relationship with the other members of the band, including Ozzy Osbourne, Tony Iommi, and Geezer Butler. “We’ve had our ups and downs, like any family,” he said. “But there’s a deep bond that can’t be broken. I respect them all immensely.”
Fans of Black Sabbath continue to hope for Ward’s return to the stage, but the drummer emphasized that his priority is maintaining his health and cherishing the music he helped create. “Whether I play live again or not, I’m grateful for everything we accomplished together.”
