Epic Return:Bruce Springsteen fans’ ‘hot take’ has one of his most contentious albums ra…Read more

But others in the Reddit thread have suggested Springsteen could be in need of an “editor” as some of his lesser-loved tracks still leave a sour taste. One user wrote: “He needs an editor. Not every song sketch should come to fruition. Looking at you, Queen of the Supermarket and Outlaw Pete.”

Another replied: “If anything he’s a too harsh editor. There are so many fantastic non-album songs, on Tracks or elsewhere. Could have easily made two more great records out of those. Loose Ends is legit a top ten Bruce song.”

A third added: “I like this perspective. An editor doesn’t just trim away the chaff, but also brings material that might have been lost to the fore. We might have gotten another studio album, or two, from the best of the material that has trickled out over the years.”

Some disagreed with the need for an editor, with some saying he was allowed a few “duds” in the mix of incredible songs. One wrote: “The guy has 27+ albums. He’s allowed the two ‘duds’ you named. I like them both though.” Another added: “I’m with you with Outlaw Pete, but there is something about Queen of the Supermarket that hits me just right. Full disclosure, I also really like Lost in the Supermarket by The Clash.”
