The Rolling Stones continue to captivate audiences worldwide with their latest album, ‘Hackney Diamonds,’ marking a triumphant return after nearly two decades.
‘Hackney Diamonds’: A Stellar Comeback
Released on October 20, 2023, ‘Hackney Diamonds’ is the band’s first album of original material since 2005’s ‘A Bigger Bang.’ This 12-track collection features collaborations with music legends such as Elton John, Lady Gaga, Paul McCartney, Stevie Wonder, and former Stones bassist Bill Wyman. Notably, it includes contributions from the late drummer Charlie Watts, who recorded parts before his passing in 2021.
Critics have lauded ‘Hackney Diamonds’ as one of the Stones’ strongest works in decades. The album showcases a blend of rock, ballads, dance tracks, and even a country-inspired tune, reflecting the band’s versatility and enduring appeal. Frontman Mick Jagger expressed the band’s enthusiasm, stating they were “pretty fired up” during the recording sessions.
Chart-Topping Success
The album’s impact was immediate and profound. ‘Hackney Diamonds’ soared to number one in 20 countries, including the UK, Austria, Australia, Greece, Argentina, the Netherlands, and Germany. In the UK, it became the Stones’ 14th album to top the charts, achieving the Christmas number one spot in December 2023. The Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA) certified the album platinum, underscoring its commercial success.
Touring Triumphs and Future Plans
In support of ‘Hackney Diamonds,’ the Rolling Stones embarked on a highly successful North American tour in 2024. The tour encompassed 18 shows across 15 cities, selling approximately 848,000 tickets and grossing over $235 million. This achievement positioned the Stones as the top North American touring act of the year.
Looking ahead, the band had initially planned a European tour for 2025. However, due to logistical challenges with venues and scheduling conflicts, these plans have been postponed. The Stones are now aiming to perform in the UK and other European locations in 2026. Despite these adjustments, the band’s commitment to delivering electrifying performances remains unwavering.
