Netflix Release Exclusive Incredible String Band Documentary.

Netflix has announced an exclusive documentary about the legendary psychedelic folk group The Incredible String Band, set to premiere later this year. Titled Echoes of the Mystic: The Incredible String Band Story, the documentary will explore the band’s groundbreaking contributions to music, their unique fusion of folk and psychedelia, and their lasting cultural impact.

Formed in Scotland in 1966 by Robin Williamson, Clive Palmer, and Mike Heron, The Incredible String Band became one of the most influential experimental folk acts of their time. Their innovative sound, which blended Celtic, Middle Eastern, and Eastern influences with poetic lyricism, redefined folk music in the late 1960s and early 1970s. The documentary will take a deep dive into the band’s rise to prominence, their involvement in the counterculture movement, and their unforgettable performance at the 1969 Woodstock Festival.

The film, directed by acclaimed music documentarian Jonathan Parker, will feature never-before-seen footage, rare interviews, and archival performances. It will also include conversations with surviving band members, music historians, and artists inspired by The Incredible String Band, such as David Tibet (Current 93), Devendra Banhart, and Joanna Newsom.

In a statement, Parker shared his excitement: “The Incredible String Band was ahead of its time, blending folk traditions with a mystical, otherworldly quality that still resonates today. This documentary will celebrate their legacy and introduce their music to a new generation.”

Fans can expect deep insights into the band’s most celebrated albums, including The Hangman’s Beautiful Daughter and Wee Tam and the Big Huge, as well as the personal and creative dynamics that shaped their journey. The film will also examine the band’s eventual breakup and their influence on modern psychedelic and folk music.

Echoes of the Mystic: The Incredible String Band Story is set to debut exclusively on Netflix on October 10, 2025. Fans of folk, psychedelia, and music history won’t want to miss this in-depth look at one of the most visionary bands of their era.
