Sophie Cunningham Praises Missouri Fan After Rivalry Stunt Against Kansas

A Missouri football fan turned heads during the Tigers’ rivalry game against Kansas on September 6 after putting team pride above prize money.

The fan, who has an artificial right leg, was given the opportunity to win $25,000 by kicking a 45-yard field goal during a game break. Instead of going for the prize, he used his left leg to squib the ball toward the Kansas sideline. He then lifted his shirt to reveal “F KU” painted across his chest, drawing loud reactions from the crowd.

Missouri native and Indiana Fever forward Sophie Cunningham, who played college basketball for the Tigers, quickly took notice. Currently sidelined with a knee injury, Cunningham expressed her admiration on social media: “Who is this legend? Need to get him a signed jersey ASAP.”

Cunningham’s praise comes just a week before she will be inducted into the University of Missouri Athletics Hall of Fame, cementing her legacy as one of the school’s most accomplished athletes.

The Missouri-Kansas rivalry is regarded as one of college sports’ fiercest matchups, often compared to Indiana-Purdue, Kentucky-Louisville, and North Carolina-Duke. For this fan, loyalty to the Tigers proved more important than cash—earning him recognition from one of Missouri’s biggest sports stars.
