The goalkeeper won every accolade at the St Johnstone’s Player of the Year ceremony, and his outstanding performances also led to his much expected inclusion in the Bulgarian team. Because of the 27-year-old’s valiant performances, Jimmy Thelin, the new Aberdeen coach, decided to activate the player’s release clause and pay him a six-figure transfer fee.

Thelin’s decision to recruit goalkeeping coach Craig Hinchcliffe from St Johnstone has also been beneficial for Mitov, providing him with stability and ongoing support. Mitov mentioned, “Before joining St Johnstone, I received numerous offers from English teams. After speaking with Hinchy, his predictions came true. Securing a call-up to the Bulgarian national team was a major goal for me, and his guidance has been instrumental in elevating my game.”

“I will always appreciate what he’s done for me, but I know there’s more potential in my game. Having him as my coach again makes me confident we can reach those higher levels together. When he called me to say he was coming to Aberdeen, I was pleasantly surprised and thrilled. He’s fantastic at bringing out the best in me.”

“We had a successful year together, but that’s behind us now, and our aim is to make this year even better. He’s a terrific person and an excellent coach.”

Mitov asserts that his standout performance last season at St Johnstone wasn’t a one-time occurrence. He believes he performed just as well the previous season at Cambridge United, despite not receiving as much recognition while playing in England’s League One.
