Dougie Freedman’s main focus at Crystal Palace currently is to find a replacement for Michael Olise. However, his initial offer for one potential target is unlikely to be sufficient to secure the deal.

Selhurst Park is still adjusting to the departure of Michael Olise, who recently completed his transfer to Bayern Munich earlier this week.

Following Michael Olise’s departure, Crystal Palace finds themselves without a key playmaker on the right wing, prompting a search for reinforcements.

The club has already shown interest in Antonio Nusa and made a bid for Jaden Philogene, a highly sought-after prospect. Now, reports indicate that on Friday, Crystal Palace has submitted a bid to acquire Marcus Edwards from Sporting Lisbon.

Crystal Palace have made a £12.6 million bid to acquire Marcus Edwards from Sporting Lisbon, aiming to fill the creative void left by Michael Olise on the right wing. Edwards, known for his silky dribbling skills, has drawn comparisons to Lionel Messi in terms of playing style, as noted by Mauricio Pochettino. Now, Dougie Freedman and Crystal Palace have taken action to secure Edwards’ talents.

According to a report from Record in Portugal, Crystal Palace are persisting with their interest in Edwards, despite Sporting’s reluctance to let him go. They have recently made a bid of £12.6m, which Sporting considers significantly below their valuation. Sporting is reportedly seeking between £21m and £25.2m for Edwards, and Palace’s offer represents only half of this range, leading to its rejection.

Sporting is motivated to secure a higher fee because Tottenham Hotspur would receive 35% of any transfer fee for Edwards. Despite their reluctance, Sporting is preparing for Edwards’ potential departure by identifying a 17-year-old academy prospect as a replacement.

Currently, Palace appear to have the upper hand over Spurs in the race to sign Edwards, suggesting that further developments in this transfer saga are likely.
