LeBron James and Anthony Davis of the Los Angeles Lakers are in top form for the 2024-25 season, having been key in Team USA’s undefeated summer campaign. The team has not only excelled in exhibition games but also swept through pool play and defeated Brazil decisively in the quarterfinals.
Looking ahead, Team USA is set to face Nikola Jokic and Serbia in the semifinals, where they are the clear favorites given their dominant performances so far.
In the win over Brazil, Team USA showcased their best all-around game, effectively sharing and moving the basketball for easy scoring opportunities while maintaining tight defense. James excelled as a playmaker, contributing nine assists, 12 points, and three steals.
James did experience a scare during the game when he took a hit to the head and had to leave the court momentarily. However, he reassured everyone post-game that he was okay, according to Marc J. Spears of ESPN.
Team USA head coach Steve Kerr disclosed that LeBron James went to the locker room to get stitches for the injury he sustained, as reported by Ben Golliver of The Washington Post.
Fortunately for both LeBron James and Team USA, the injury does not appear to be severe, and he is expected to be available for the semifinal against Serbia. The Los Angeles Lakers, however, likely had concerns seeing their star player injured just before the start of the regular season.
James returned to the bench later in the second half but did not re-enter the game, as it was well in hand. Team USA will hope for another early lead against Serbia, allowing James to rest further and minimize the risk of additional injuries.
