Newcastle United’s interest in Crystal Palace defender Marc Guehi is still alive, as they plan to make another attempt to sign the £65m-rated England international, according to transfer news expert Fabrizio Romano.
Guehi has impressed for Palace and had a standout Euro 2024 with England, which is likely why the Eagles are determined to secure a high price for him if he leaves Selhurst Park this summer.
While it’s uncertain how this situation will ultimately unfold, Romano suggests that Newcastle remains eager to pursue Guehi, and it’s possible that other clubs could enter the race as well, even if they haven’t done so yet.
Newcastle will likely be cautious about Financial Fair Play regulations, so £65m could be a significant outlay for them. However, there might be ways to reduce the fee, such as structuring the deal with bonuses, add-ons, or even including a player in the transfer.
In his latest Daily Briefing for CaughtOffside, Fabrizio Romano provided an update on the Guehi transfer saga, stating that the situation is still ongoing. “Newcastle are still in the race. It’s not over yet. They want to try again, but Crystal Palace are holding firm on their £65m asking price,” Romano said.
“There are currently no other clubs involved, but Newcastle have not completed the deal yet, so it’s one to watch in the coming days,” Romano added.
Newcastle United has demonstrated significant ambition and savvy in the transfer market recently, and securing Guehi would be another astute addition if they can finalize the move.
