A.J. Allmendinger, a seasoned veteran in the NASCAR Cup Series, is set to make his full-time return to the premier racing series in 2025. After initially rejoining the Cup Series in 2023 with Kaulig Racing, Allmendinger piloted the No. 16 Chevrolet full-time, marking his first full season since 2018. Despite securing a significant victory at the Charlotte Motor Speedway Roval during the playoffs, the team decided to utilize his experience primarily in the Xfinity Series for the 2024 season.
Throughout 2024, Allmendinger continued to showcase his driving prowess, participating in multiple Cup Series races. While his primary focus was the Xfinity Series, he also made several appearances in the No. 16 and No. 13 Chevrolets during Cup events, filling in as needed. Despite not capturing a win this year, Allmendinger remains a strong contender in the Xfinity Series, currently holding sixth place in the standings as the season nears its conclusion.
The decision to bring Allmendinger back to a full-time Cup Series role in 2025 stems from his consistent performances throughout the 2024 season. Even with a team that many consider underperforming, he managed to secure three top-six finishes, demonstrating his value as a driver. His return to the No. 16 Chevrolet next season positions him as a key player, particularly given his exceptional skill on road courses.
Looking ahead to 2025, Allmendinger’s road course expertise could be a significant asset. A regular season win on a road course would likely secure his spot in the postseason, setting him up for a potential deep playoff run. With three career Cup Series victories under his belt, including a notable win at Watkins Glen International in 2014, Allmendinger has proven he can compete at the highest level.
As the NASCAR Cup Series schedule for 2025 is yet to be released, the anticipation builds for Allmendinger’s return to full-time competition. If the postseason once again features multiple road course races, his experience and skill could make him a formidable contender in the chase for the championship.
