Former Celtics Star Rajon Rondo Pleads Guilty to Gun Charge, Receives Probation”

Former Boston Celtics point guard Rajon Rondo has pleaded guilty to a gun charge, stemming from an arrest earlier this year. On Tuesday, the 37-year-old reached a plea agreement in an Indiana court, where he was sentenced to six months of probation. The sentence includes the suspension of a potential jail term, as reported by WLKY in Indiana.

Rondo’s legal troubles began on January 28, when he was pulled over during a routine traffic stop. Upon searching his vehicle, authorities discovered both marijuana and a firearm, leading to charges for possession of each. However, in a plea deal, Rondo successfully had the marijuana charge dismissed, admitting guilt only to the unlawful carrying of a handgun. In addition to the probation, Rondo was ordered to pay $189 in court costs.

Rondo, who had a storied career with the Celtics, playing over eight seasons before being traded to the Dallas Mavericks in 2014, has faced legal challenges before. His history includes multiple run-ins with the law, such as the emergency protective orders filed against him by the same woman in both 2022 and 2023. In response to these earlier incidents, Rondo completed anger management courses and underwent counseling, leading to the dismissal of the first protective order.

While Rondo is now retired from professional basketball, his career highlights include winning two NBA championships, one of which was with the Celtics in 2008. He last played in the NBA during the 2021-22 season with the Cleveland Cavaliers. Rondo also briefly reconnected with the Celtics during the 2023 training camp, where he was invited by Coach Joe Mazzulla to observe and engage with the team.

This latest development adds another chapter to the complex post-basketball life of Rajon Rondo, whose career on the court was often as intense and unpredictable as his life off it.
