Since stepping in for injured Packers quarterback Jordan Love, Malik Willis has quickly made an impact, helping Green Bay secure critical wins and keep their playoff hopes alive. The young backup, who joined the Packers after a trade with Tennessee, initially faced skepticism about his consistency. However, he has defied expectations by leading the team to a victory over his former Titans teammates and delivering a poised performance against Jacksonville. With these two wins, Willis has amassed a passing total of 324 yards and has shown strong dual-threat capabilities, rushing for over 100 yards as well.

Head Coach Matt LaFleur has praised Willis’s resilience and ability to step up under pressure, describing his rapid adaptation to Green Bay’s system as almost unprecedented. Now, let me preface. Love is their franchise guy. The gap between Love and Willis is tremendous. There is no quarterback battle and there is no competition to be had. Green Bay would take Love at 70 percent health and ability over Willis at 100 percent.

But, far too often, players in the NFL find themselves irreplaceable. LaFleur is proving to Love and everybody else that he can field a team and a gameplan that can win with a short notice quarterback.

Obviously, Love is still the guy and his relationship with LaFleur is great. But, LaFleur is doing incredible work, as is Willis, to keep the Packers afloat in Love’s absence.
