Two Ohio State players earned Big Ten honors for their standout performances in the victory over Purdue.

Ohio State quarterback Will Howard and wide receiver Jeremiah Smith both earned Big Ten accolades following the team’s victory over Purdue. Howard received his first “Offensive Player of the Week” award after completing 21 of 26 passes for 260 yards and scoring four touchdowns. Smith, named “Freshman of the Week” for the second time this season, set two Ohio State freshman records previously held by Cris Carter, totaling 45 receptions and nine receiving touchdowns this season. The Buckeyes are now ranked No. 2 in the AP Poll.

Howard, recognized as the Big Ten Offensive Player of the Week, had an efficient game with 21 completions out of 26 attempts, totaling 260 passing yards and four touchdowns. This is his first time receiving the honor this season.

Jeremiah Smith, who was named Big Ten Freshman of the Week for the second time, contributed significantly with six catches for 87 yards and a touchdown. His performance broke two Ohio State freshman records set by Cris Carter in 1984, as he now holds the Buckeyes’ freshman records for both receptions (45) and receiving touchdowns (9) in a season. With this win, Ohio State improved to 8-1 and will face Northwestern next at Wrigley Field in Chicago.
