Bruins Send Georgii Merkulov to AHL and Recall Marc McLaughlin

The Boston Bruins have made some recent roster adjustments, sending forward Georgii Merkulov back to their AHL affiliate, the Providence Bruins, while recalling Marc McLaughlin from the minors. These moves highlight the team’s commitment to developing young talent while ensuring the NHL roster remains competitive.

Georgii Merkulov, 24, has spent some time with the Bruins this season, making a solid impression during his three-game stint. He registered his first career NHL assist on November 16 in a game against the St. Louis Blues and also fired five shots on goal. Despite his promising start, the Bruins have decided to return him to Providence to continue his development. Merkulov has been performing well in the AHL, posting two goals, 11 points, and a plus-2 rating in 13 games this season. As one of the top prospects in the Bruins’ system, the team will be watching closely to see how he continues to progress.

Meanwhile, Marc McLaughlin, 25, is enjoying a strong season in Providence after a challenging year in 2023. In 15 games, he has tallied five goals and 10 points, already surpassing his previous year’s totals of eight goals and 14 points in 68 games. This improvement has earned McLaughlin another opportunity with the Bruins, where he has previously played in 14 NHL games across three seasons, scoring four goals and accumulating 10 penalty minutes.

The Bruins’ decision to send Merkulov back to the AHL and recall McLaughlin is part of their ongoing effort to balance player development with team needs. While Merkulov continues to hone his skills in Providence, McLaughlin’s strong AHL performance has earned him a shot at contributing to the NHL roster. Both players represent important pieces of the Bruins’ future, and their progress will be key to the team’s long-term success.

This roster shuffle also emphasizes Boston’s focus on depth and development, ensuring that the team has the right mix of experienced players and emerging talent. As the season unfolds, the performance of Merkulov and McLaughlin will likely play a significant role in shaping the Bruins’ roster decisions moving forward.
