Aston Villa has been active in the transfer market recently under the management of Unai Emery, making several signings to strengthen their squad. The six players who have joined Aston Villa this summer are Ian Maatsen, Cameron Archer, Samuel Iling-Junior, Lewis Dobbin, Enzo Barrenechea, and Ross Barkley. These additions are part of Emery’s efforts to enhance the team ahead of the upcoming season.
Aston Villa has undergone significant player movement this summer, with five departures from B6. Douglas Luiz, Tim Iroegbunam, and Morgan Sanson have been sold, while Philippe Coutinho has left on loan, and Calum Chambers has been released.
Currently, there are discussions underway regarding the potential sale of another player who holds importance in Unai Emery’s plans for the squad.
Aston Villa is currently engaged in discussions to sell Moussa Diaby, a player who was previously linked with a move to the Saudi Pro League before joining Villa and continues to be of interest. Fabrizio Romano has provided two recent updates on Diaby, indicating rapid developments in the negotiations.
At 1:34pm, transfer insider Fabrizio Romano reported that Al Ittihad have made an initial proposal “in excess of €50 million (£42 million) with add-ons” for Moussa Diaby. Romano also mentioned that Diaby is open to the move, indicating his willingness to consider the transfer offer from the Saudi club.
Less than an hour later, Fabrizio Romano updated that Aston Villa “want more than initial €55 million (£46 million) from Al Ittihad” for Moussa Diaby. Despite Villa valuing Diaby highly, manager Unai Emery views him as an “important player.” Discussions are ongoing both from the club’s perspective and with Diaby himself regarding his potential transfer.
Losing Moussa Diaby would indeed be disappointing for Aston Villa, especially after his impressive debut season where he garnered praise as a “phenomenal” player from pundits like Paul Merson. Diaby’s standout performance included contributing 10 goals and nine assists across all competitions.
With Aston Villa gearing up to compete in the Champions League and potentially challenge for the Premier League title, retaining a player of Diaby’s caliber would be crucial. However, discussions about his potential transfer to Al Ittihad are currently underway, making it a situation worth monitoring closely. For now, Villa fans will have to wait and see how the negotiations unfold.
