Chelsea is actively seeking to offload players to ensure compliance with the Premier League’s Profit and Sustainability Rules (PSR), with Armando Broja being among those they are eager to sell. Efforts are underway to showcase Broja’s talents to potential buyers.
Southampton is one of several clubs reportedly interested in acquiring Armando Broja, though opinions among Saints supporters regarding his previous stint at the club, where he scored six Premier League goals, are divided.
Chelsea’s preference is to sell rather than loan Broja, and any club in need of a striker is being linked as a potential destination. Southampton, Wolverhampton Wanderers, and Everton are cited as potential suitors, although financial constraints may hinder their ability to meet Chelsea’s £20 million asking price.
Broja’s market value has fluctuated, initially valued at nearly £40 million after his loan spell with Southampton, but now reduced to £20 million. Chelsea hopes to initiate a bidding war to maximize his sale price.
Upon leaving Southampton, Broja envisioned his future at Chelsea, having signed a new contract before his loan move. However, his subsequent lack of development can partly be attributed to a cruciate injury suffered the following season.
Despite making limited appearances for Chelsea and Fulham, Broja’s goal-scoring record has been disappointing, with just two goals in his last 48 games across various clubs. As a result, interest in Broja primarily stems from lower-half Premier League clubs seeking to bolster their striking options.
But is Armado Broja worth £20 million, I would say no and the other issue will be wages, Broja is under contract under 2028 and his weekly wage will be significantly more than Southampton’s wage structure and for that matter both Wolves and Everton, especially Everton given that they themselves are under severe financial pressure at the moment.
So I don’t think this rumour has much legs, even before taking into account that Broja is a direct style centre forward with a hustle bustle style, rather than the type that Russell martin tends to like, players who make runs off the ball and contribute in other areas.
That is not Broja’s style, if he is not getting the ball he is not in the game, nothing wrong with that, there are plenty of players who play that way with great results, but that is not the current Southampton way.
