Legendary musician Billy Joel, 75, has postponed his upcoming concert dates after suffering a fall during a performance at Connecticut’s Mohegan Sun Resort on February 22, 2025. The incident occurred while Joel was performing his classic hit “It’s Still Rock and Roll to Me.” As he engaged with the audience, he attempted a dynamic move with his microphone stand, which led to him losing balance and falling onto his back. Band members quickly assisted him, and despite the mishap, Joel completed the show, performing one final song at the piano.
Fans in attendance expressed concern, noting that Joel appeared to struggle throughout the performance. One concertgoer remarked, “He looked frail hobbling across the stage. At one point, he was using the microphone stand as a cane.” The audience collectively gasped when he fell, highlighting the gravity of the situation.
In the weeks following the fall, Joel underwent surgery for an undisclosed medical condition. To ensure a full recovery, he will also undergo physical therapy under the supervision of his doctors. Consequently, he has postponed his tour for four months. In a statement shared on Instagram, Joel expressed his regret over the postponements but emphasized that his health must come first. He reassured fans of his expected full recovery and his eagerness to return to the stage.
The affected tour dates span North America and Europe, including performances in Detroit, Toronto, Syracuse, Salt Lake City, Edinburgh, Liverpool, Charlotte, and Milwaukee. Notably, the Edinburgh and Liverpool concerts, initially slated for June 2025, have been rescheduled to June 2026. Fans unable to attend the new dates can request refunds. The tour is now set to resume on July 5, 2025, at Acrisure Stadium in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.
This incident follows a previous medical procedure earlier in the year, which led to the cancellation of a show in Florida. Despite these setbacks, Joel remains committed to his 2025 stadium tour, which includes historic performances at Yankee Stadium, MetLife Stadium, and Citi Field in New York. He recently concluded a decade-long residency at Madison Square Garden, marking a significant milestone with 104 sold-out shows.
Fans worldwide have expressed their support and well-wishes for Joel’s speedy recovery. His dedication to his craft and resilience in the face of health challenges continue to inspire audiences globally. As the “Piano Man” focuses on his health, fans eagerly await his return to the stage, where his music has touched countless lives over the decades.
