The Bears have enhanced their receiving group by bringing in Keenan Allen and Rome Odunze, joining DJ Moore in the mix. This has intensified the competition among the team’s wide receivers, including second-year player Tyler Scott, who are all striving to prove their value and secure their place on the roster.
“We try not to get caught up in all the noise and distractions that come with a busy offseason. It’s part of the game and the business. For me, it’s about staying focused within my own space, blocking out the external factors. I like to work within my bubble, focusing solely on what I can control. Regardless of who else is on the field, my goal is always to be the best player out there. That mindset has always driven me, and I’m eager to demonstrate it.”
In his third season with the Bears, Velus Jones Jr. hasn’t made significant waves as a wide receiver, hauling in just 11 passes over two seasons. Despite this, he sees himself as a versatile player who can play a hybrid role as both a running back and receiver. Jones remains confident in his ability to contribute effectively as a pass catcher.
“That’s why I’m looking forward to this preseason, as I mentioned, to prove it to myself. I believe it’s within me; I just need to stay healthy, and my natural abilities will shine through,” he said.
Velus is enthusiastic about the new kickoff rule, which is anticipated to lead to more returns. He believes that with his speed and size, Bears fans will witness an increase in kickoff returns resulting in touchdowns.
