Despite winning the opening race of the T100 World Triathlon Tour in Miami, Magnus Ditlev anticipates that the upcoming London race will present unique challenges. He aims for the T100 series to inspire future triathletes and hopes to contribute to that inspiration.
After his victory at Challenge Roth Ironman just three weeks ago, the Danish athlete enters the T100 London race in top form and as the world number one. “London is a completely different course compared to Miami,” said the 26-year-old. “It’s 40 degrees there, but definitely not here.”
He noted that the Miami race was the first of the series and that some competitors were not at their peak. “I can’t rely too much on Miami except that it was a great result and I’m very pleased with it. However, I know I’ll need to perform better than I did in Miami to win this time.”
Ditlev emphasized the importance of continual improvement and feels he has progressed steadily throughout the season. The T100 Triathlon World Tour 2024 includes 40 contracted athletes competing in eight global events over a 100km triathlon distance. London is the fourth event, following Miami, Singapore, and San Francisco, with Ibiza, Las Vegas, Dubai, and a Grand Final in the Middle East still to come.
While his recent victory at Challenge Roth Ironman demonstrates his good form, Ditlev acknowledges that the two types of races are quite different. “It shows I’m in good shape but it’s very different from this race, which is much higher in intensity. With Ironman, you focus on endurance, but that can slow you down in shorter distances, so I’ve had to work on my speed.”
He feels confident despite a bit of uncertainty about his freshness post-Ironman, noting good recovery. “You never really know until the race starts, but I’m optimistic and hoping for a favorable bike course.”
Ditlev praised the T100 series for offering diverse conditions across various locations, which allows athletes to excel in different environments. “It’s amazing to visit such iconic cities and experience varying courses, climates, and time zones. Excelling in the entire series demonstrates consistency and excellence, which is a great aspiration.”
He expressed his excitement about the T100’s role in promoting triathlon and motivating others to become active. “It’s incredible how the T100 brings triathlon to such renowned cities. It would be a huge honor to be part of that and to inspire people to get into the sport. It’s something I didn’t consider at the start of my career, but it now motivates me greatly.”
