DONE DEAL: Striker seals £5m transfer to end Rangers speculation with manager ‘delighted’

It remains uncertain whether Rangers will secure a centre-forward before the transfer window closes. However, many fans would likely welcome the addition.

This need is heightened by Danilo’s continued absence due to injury since December, Hamza Igamane’s unpreparedness, and Cyriel Dessers’ inconsistent performances.

Recently, two centre-forwards frequently linked with Rangers over the past eight months have been officially ruled out. Bojan Miovski, an Aberdeen standout, has signed with Girona for nearly £7 million, tasked with replacing La Liga’s top scorer Artem Dovbyk and contributing to Girona’s Champions League campaign.

Tommy Conway, another name often mentioned in connection with Rangers, has also been removed from consideration. Conway, who had a year left on his contract, had shown little interest in extending it, leading to speculation about his future. He has now signed with Middlesbrough for around £5 million, ending any lingering talks about a move to Rangers.

Conway, who was also linked with various Premier League clubs and Celtic, has agreed to a four-year contract with Middlesbrough, a club that recently demonstrated its promotion potential with a 3-0 win over Leeds United in the EFL Cup.

Middlesbrough’s manager, Michael Carrick, expressed enthusiasm about the signing, noting Conway’s age, potential, and Championship experience.

Meanwhile, Rangers are focused on their upcoming Scottish League Cup match against St Johnstone. Dessers is expected to start as the centre-forward, unless Clement decides to give Igamane a chance. Clement has also indicated that Rangers need to make sales before they can make any new purchases in the remaining weeks of the transfer window.
