Symphonic metal powerhouse Epica is making waves with their latest single “Arcana”, marking their first new release since their 2021 album Omega. The song is now available on all streaming platforms and is accompanied by a visually striking music video directed by Remko Tielemans.
A New Album on the Horizon
Lead vocalist Simone Simons has revealed that Epica’s much-anticipated ninth studio album is currently in progress, with plans for a 2025 release. The band has taken a fresh approach to songwriting, blending new elements with their signature symphonic sound while revisiting their early musical roots.
Simone described the upcoming album as “the most epic Epica so far”, featuring a mix of heavy tracks, a cinematic ballad, and powerful riffs. The band has been recording orchestral elements in Prague, further enhancing the grandiosity of their sound. She also hinted at a strong spiritual theme, with the album exploring the symbolic meaning of the number nine.
Reinventing Their Creative Process
Unlike their previous albums, the band members—who live in different countries—gathered in person to collaborate in real time. This change allowed them to feed off each other’s creativity, leading to what they believe is one of their strongest records to date. Simone also emphasized that every member had a role in the songwriting process, making the album a truly collective effort.
What’s Next for Epica?
In addition to the new album, Epica has been busy with collaborations. They recently worked with the Dutch theme park Efteling on the song “The Ghost in Me (Danse Macabre)”, which ties into one of the park’s new attractions.
With a powerful new single already out and an album set to drop next year, Epica is proving once again why they remain at the forefront of the symphonic metal scene. Fans can expect an epic return from the band in 2025!
