Dominik Kubalik is a free agency forward who the Toronto Maple Leafs should sign, according to NHL analyst Michael Mazzei of TheLeafsNation.
The Chicago Blackhawks signed Tyler Bertuzzi as a free agent, but the Maple Leafs haven’t added any new forwards to their group. Alberga thinks it would be wise for the Maple Leafs to sign Kubalik because Toronto hasn’t added to their forward corps.
As there is clearly a need for more depth on the left wing, Kubalik has the ability to move up into the starting lineup and earn playing time on the second power play unit. With far less risk, he might contribute to the offensive and net-front presence that Tyler Bertuzzi left behind if he can secure a position out of camp. The soon-to-be 29-year-old would undoubtedly be driven to turn around his career, and the Leafs’ competitive roster would be the best spot for him to look for that second opportunity, according to Mazzei.
Despite having a very erratic NHL career, Kubalik might be able to help replace Bertuzzi in the wake of his departure, according to Mazzei. In 357 NHL games, the 28-year-old skater has scored 93 goals and provided 83 assists for a total of 176 points.
Kubalik had his greatest season as a rookie with the Blackhawks, tallying 46 points from 68 games with 30 goals and 16 assists. Since then, he hasn’t been as steady as he was in 74 games with the Ottawa Senators last year, when he finished with 11 goals and 4 assists for 15 points.
Kubalik Might Take Nick Robertson’s Place
Kubalik’s signing could potentially prove to be a useful substitute in the event that Nick Robertson decides not to sign with Toronto and is transferred.
As an RFA who has requested a trade, Robertson has informed the Maple Leafs that he does not intend to re-sign. If Robertson is adamant about it, Toronto might trade the previous second-round pick and then get Kubalik to take his left wing spot.
Brad Treliving, the general manager of Toronto, has stated that he thinks Robertson will play for the Maple Leafs in the upcoming campaign.
On July 1, Treliving stated, “Obviously, I have known that there was some frustration with Nick, but we look at Nick as an excellent player.” Nick has a fantastic opportunity here. He must do well on the field for us.
In 87 NHL games, Robertson has skated and scored 17 goals, 17 assists, and 34 points.
