The young midfielder made a strong impression during his breakthrough campaign, but frequent positional changes and a thigh injury towards the end of the Championship season left him feeling frustrated.
Norwich have acted swiftly to replace David Wagner, who appeared to view Gibbs primarily outside of central midfield, with their new boss Johannes Hoff Thorup. Thorup holds Gibbs in high regard and is actively molding his team with him in mind.
“This injury marked a significant moment for me, pushing me to put in extra effort over the summer to return stronger. I feel confident and ready to increase my playing time, influence matches, and excel.
“I identify myself more as a number eight,” clarified Gibbs to the Pink Un. “While I can handle defensive duties and contribute offensively, the box-to-box role aligns best with my skills and attributes.
“Ultimately, I’m content to play wherever the manager needs me. Whether it’s adjusting positions for a game or two, I’m more than willing. My preference remains midfield, where I aim to consistently impact games.”
The 21-year-old expressed optimism and outlined his goals for the upcoming season at Carrow Road, highlighting his determination to progress after a challenging previous season.
“In this upcoming season, I’m eager to step up, particularly after last season didn’t go as planned,” Gibbs stated.
“My aim this season is to secure a spot in the starting lineup and make a significant impact on games and our overall season. I’m focused on helping us reach the promotion places, which is our collective target.”
