Derby County may enhance their defensive lineup further following the acquisition of Ebou Adams. Paul Warne has prioritized bolstering the midfield and attack as they prepare for their Championship comeback.
The Rams have secured midfielders Ben Osborn and Kenzo Goudmijn, as well as attracted strikers Kayden Jackson and Jerry Yates to Pride Park. However, Warne’s efforts to strengthen the midfield and attack aren’t finished yet. Ebou Adams from Cardiff City is reportedly close to signing a three-year contract, signaling further enhancements to the team’s lineup.
A permanent transfer for Adams has been in progress since the end of last season, and it seems that both clubs have now settled on a £900,000 fee for the Gambian midfielder. Adams won’t be the sole player making his way to Derbyshire, indicating further additions to the squad.
Derby County are considering a move for Ipswich Town defender Elkan Baggott. Despite already securing four new players this summer, if Warne’s statements hold true, the Rams manager aims to bring in an additional eight players before the deadline day.
According to Indonesian outlet Sepakbola, Warne is now focusing on strengthening the defense by pursuing a loan deal for Elkan Baggott from newly promoted Premier League team Ipswich Town.
The report suggests that the tall center-back, Elkan Baggott, is likely to go out on loan due to limited opportunities at Ipswich Town, particularly after the arrival of Jacob Greaves for £15 million. Derby County and League One side Wycombe Wanderers are both reportedly interested in the 21-year-old, aiming to bolster their defensive options.
Warne currently has three options to choose from: Eiran Cashin, Curtis Nelson, and Sonny Bradley. Adding a fourth centre-back could be crucial as Derby prepares for the Championship.
Nelson and Cashin formed a strong partnership last season, contributing to Derby’s impressive defensive record, conceding just 37 goals, the best in the league. Baggott could provide solid competition in the squad.
Baggott, a product of the Ipswich academy, has featured in only seven senior matches for the club since joining on a two-year scholarship in 2019. His appearances include just two League One games, with the remainder in the EFL Trophy and Carabao Cup.
Most of Baggott’s playing time has been gained through loan spells. He spent the 2020/21 season at Kings Lynn Town before progressing to League Two with Gillingham, followed by stints at League One clubs Cheltenham Town and Bristol Rovers.
The 2003-born defender’s most recent stint was at Bristol Rovers, where he made 14 appearances in League One and received praise from manager Matt Taylor for revitalizing his career after a slow start.
Standing tall at 6 feet 5 inches, Baggott is a commanding presence in defense, known for his prowess in aerial duels and ability to assert control in games.
Although he has yet to play in the Championship, Baggott made history as the first Indonesian to feature in the EFL when he played for Ipswich against Rotherham in 2022.
Acquiring Baggott on loan from Ipswich would be a low-risk move. However, given his lack of experience in the second tier, he would likely need to compete with Cashin and Nelson for playing time.
