Green Bay Packers quarterback Jordan Love suffered an apparent lower leg injury late in their 34-29 loss to the Philadelphia Eagles during the season opener in São Paulo, Brazil. The injury occurred on the final drive of the game as Love attempted to extend a play from Green Bay’s 49-yard line. After lateraling the ball to running back Josh Jacobs, Love was hit by two Eagles defenders. He remained on the field for medical attention before limping off with assistance. Despite walking to the locker room afterward, Love was visibly in need of help.
Packers head coach Matt LaFleur provided no clear update on Love’s condition following the game, responding with “I don’t know” when questioned about his quarterback’s status. Love’s performance before the injury included completing 17 of 34 passes for 260 yards, with two touchdowns and one interception.
Malik Willis, the recently acquired backup quarterback from the Tennessee Titans, stepped in for the final two plays of the game. Unfortunately, Willis was unable to change the outcome, throwing an incomplete pass and getting sacked to conclude the game.
Love’s injury adds a layer of uncertainty to the Packers’ hopes for the season. After an impressive finish in 2023, which saw Love lead the Packers to a playoff spot and a memorable victory over the Dallas Cowboys, the franchise rewarded him with a major contract extension. Now, the team and fans alike await updates, hoping their franchise quarterback can quickly recover and continue leading the team this season.
Green Bay’s aspirations for the 2024 season now hinge on the extent of Love’s injury, and the team will be holding its breath as further information becomes available.
