JUST IN; Leafs Trade Proposal With Stars Dubbed ‘Win-Win Scenario’…

The Toronto Maple Leafs are grappling with forward Nick Robertson’s trade request and his refusal to sign a contract extension with the team.

Robertson, seeking a change of scenery and new opportunities, has expressed his desire to leave the franchise. Jim Parsons, from NHL Trade Talk and The Hockey Writers, suggests that a move to the Dallas Stars, where Robertson’s brother is currently playing, could benefit both parties.

Parsons believes such a trade could be advantageous for the Stars, providing them with a promising young forward while enhancing their offensive depth alongside Robertson’s brother, Jason. Meanwhile, Toronto would receive prospects or draft picks to strengthen their pipeline.

Adding to the dynamics, Toronto recently hired Mark Leach from the Stars as their new Director of Amateur Scouting. Parsons speculates that Leach’s familiarity with the Stars’ system and players could facilitate a trade involving Robertson.Nick Robertson #89 of the Toronto Maple Leafs

Despite Robertson’s trade request becoming public knowledge through NHL insider Chris Johnston, Maple Leafs’ General Manager Brad Treliving indicated they currently view Robertson as a valuable player and aren’t actively pursuing a trade.

Financially, the Maple Leafs have approximately $2.4 million in cap space, while the Stars possess $6.2 million, potentially facilitating a sign-and-trade scenario for Robertson.
