Katatonia Announces New Album Nightmares As Extensions Of The Waking State And Hints At 2026 World Tour…

Swedish progressive metal pioneers Katatonia have officially unveiled their 13th studio album, Nightmares as Extensions of the Waking State, a deeply introspective and musically layered collection of tracks that continues the band’s legacy of atmospheric darkness and emotional depth. Released via Napalm Records in June 2025, the album introduces a new era for the band following a significant lineup change earlier this year.

This release marks Katatonia’s first studio effort since the departure of founding guitarist Anders Nyström in March 2025. Filling his spot are guitarists Nico Elgstrand and Sebastian Svalland, both of whom bring fresh energy and style to Katatonia’s already rich soundscape. The album was recorded at NBS Audio and The City of Glass, with production handled by longtime frontman Jonas Renkse and mixing by acclaimed engineer Adam Noble.

Nightmares as Extensions of the Waking State features 10 tracks, including the haunting single “Lilac” and the melancholic “Wind of No Change.” Fans can also expect deep cuts like “Efter Solen” and “Temporal,” which highlight the band’s mastery in blending doom, gothic, and progressive elements into a cohesive and emotionally charged experience.

With the album now out, Katatonia has announced a headlining tour across the UK and Europe for November and December 2025. The tour includes support from fellow metal acts Evergrey and Klogr and spans 31 cities, concluding in their hometown of Stockholm, Sweden.

However, speculation is building around a possible 2026 world tour. Fans across North America, Latin America, Asia, and Australia are eagerly waiting for international dates to be announced. The band has hinted on social media that “bigger news is coming,” fueling rumors that a global tour is indeed on the horizon.

If confirmed, the 2026 tour would represent Katatonia’s most ambitious trek in years—potentially covering continents they haven’t visited in nearly a decade. With a new album, refreshed lineup, and revitalized sound, Katatonia is poised to make 2026 a defining chapter in their career.
