Klay Thompson Signs Three-Year $50 Million USD Sign-and-Trade Agreement With Dallas Mavericks

Klay Thompson’s departure from the Golden State Warriors marks the end of an era for the Splash Brothers. After 13 historic years with the four-time champions, Thompson has signed a significant three-year, $50 million USD contract with the Dallas Mavericks as a free agent. Teaming up with sharpshooters Luka Dončić and Kyrie Irving, Thompson aims to forge a new dynasty in the competitive Western Conference.

The sign-and-trade deal includes the Mavericks sending their own 2031 second-round pick and the less favorable of the 76ers or Nuggets’ 2025 second-round pick to the Warriors. Thompson’s move comes after a season where tensions between him and the Warriors grew, making his departure, though notable, somewhat expected. Teams like the Lakers also showed interest in acquiring him.

During his time with the Warriors, Thompson formed a legendary trio with Steph Curry and Draymond Green, achieving four championships together, a feat that puts them on par with Tim Duncan, Manu Ginobili, and Tony Parker. The Warriors expressed gratitude towards Thompson in a statement, acknowledging his immense impact on fans worldwide and expressing hope to retire his No. 11 jersey at Chase Center one day.

In the words of the Warriors organization, “Klay’s legacy will endure forever, and we eagerly anticipate the day his #11 jersey is raised alongside other Warriors legends at Chase Center.”
