In a significant development, Opera Naples has announced an expanded collaboration with the Luciano Pavarotti Foundation for the 2024-2025 season. This partnership aims to nurture emerging talent and celebrate Pavarotti’s enduring influence on the arts.
A cornerstone of this collaboration is the revival of the prestigious Luciano Pavarotti International Voice Competition. Originally spearheaded by Pavarotti in Philadelphia during the 1980s and 1990s, the competition provided a platform for young vocalists to showcase their talents. Now, Opera Naples and the Foundation are bringing this esteemed event to Florida Gulf Coast University’s Bower School of Music & the Arts. This initiative offers aspiring opera singers a unique opportunity to launch their careers on an international stage.
In addition to the competition, the partnership has led to the establishment of the Luciano Pavarotti Foundation Opera Naples Academy. This intensive 10-day program is designed to provide young artists with unparalleled vocal instruction and coaching. Participants will have the chance to perform Donizetti’s “Don Pasquale” in January, gaining invaluable experience and exposure. Nicoletta Mantovani Pavarotti, the maestro’s widow and director of the Foundation, will play an active role in the academy, including participating in the selection jury and leading roundtable discussions with students.
