Maple Leafs Eye $38 Million Forward in Latest Trade Proposal

The Toronto Maple Leafs are reportedly exploring several roster moves ahead of the training camp, including a notable trade proposal involving a forward from their rivals. A recent suggestion from the PuckPedia’s PuckGM tool has the Maple Leafs acquiring Josh Anderson from the Montreal Canadiens. This trade would see the Leafs adding Anderson to their lineup in exchange for a future draft pick, alongside some intricate salary cap management.

In the proposed deal, the Maple Leafs would receive Anderson, who has a salary cap hit of $2.8 million for the current season, with Montreal retaining part of his salary. To balance the financials, the trade also involves the Leafs sending David Kampf to the Anaheim Ducks in a separate transaction. Anderson, who is under a seven-year, $38.5 million contract and is entering his fifth season with Montreal, brings a mix of physical play and offensive potential. Last season, he registered 20 points in 78 games and has accumulated 223 points over his NHL career. The trade would provide the Canadiens with additional cap space as they continue their rebuilding efforts.

Additionally, the Maple Leafs have made headlines by signing veteran winger Max Pacioretty to a professional tryout (PTO). This move allows Pacioretty to vie for a spot on the team during training camp. Pacioretty, who played for the Washington Capitals last season, tallied 23 points in 47 games and boasts a career total of 668 points in 902 NHL games. This signing is part of General Manager Brad Treliving’s broader strategy to refine the team before the new season begins.

Meanwhile, the Canadiens are focused on solidifying their core as part of their ongoing rebuild. Recent contract extensions for Juraj Slafkovsky and Kaiden Guhle highlight Montreal’s commitment to developing young talent. Despite a quieter offseason in terms of free agency, Canadiens GM Kent Hughes is confident in the team’s direction and their ability to foster a positive team culture.

As both teams make strategic moves, the anticipation builds for the upcoming NHL season, which will see the Canadiens face off against the Maple Leafs on October 9.
