Maple Leafs and Red Wings Among Top Destinations for $52 Million Ducks’ Defenseman Cam Fowler

As the Anaheim Ducks continue their rebuild, they are expected to look into trading some of their seasoned players, including standout defenseman Cam Fowler. According to Eric Stephens from The Athletic, the Toronto Maple Leafs and the Detroit Red Wings are the top candidates to acquire Fowler if Anaheim decides to trade him. Detroit stands out due to Fowler’s personal connections, as he grew up in Farmington Hills and spends his summers there. On the other hand, Toronto is known for its constant efforts to enhance its defense and manage its salary cap effectively.

Stephens also identified the Dallas Stars and the Winnipeg Jets as potential options for Fowler’s trade. However, the Jets had a solid defensive performance last season, while the Stars might require Fowler to accept a lesser role on their team. Fowler, who is under contract for two more years with an average annual value of $6.5 million, could find a new home with either of these teams as they explore potential trades.

This speculation is supported by recent reports from Elliotte Friedman of Sportsnet, who noted that Fowler and the Ducks are in a positive dialogue about possible trades. Friedman highlighted that Fowler is open to discussions with more teams beyond his initial no-trade list, which originally included 28 teams. This expanded list increases the likelihood of a trade.

Stephens corroborates Friedman’s report, adding that Fowler’s willingness to consider more teams has created additional opportunities for a deal. Though significant trades are less common as the season approaches, moving Fowler soon would allow both him and the Ducks to adjust smoothly. A trade before the end of September could enable Fowler to integrate with his new team during training camp and the preseason.
