The Mavericks’ new jersey number for Klay Thompson has been unveiled.

It appears like Klay Thompson is going past both his No. 11 and Golden State Warriors eras as he moves past both of them.

Thompson will play for the Dallas Mavericks in the No. 31 jersey starting in the upcoming campaign, the team announced on Saturday. Days prior, Dallas signed five-time All-Star Thompson in a sign-and-trade deal with the Warriors for a low sum of money.

Nine other players in Mavs history have worn the number 31, most notably Jason Terry and Nick Van Exel (the latter of whom won an NBA title in 2011 while wearing the number 31 for Dallas and was awarded the 2009 Sixth Man of the Year Award).

Throughout his career, Thompson has worn No. 11, but Kyrie Irving presently wears that number, therefore it is not accessible with the Mavs. Thompson wore No. 1 when attending Washington State University, so wearing No. 31 will undoubtedly be a change of pace for him. In his tearful parting post to Warriors supporters, Thompson alluded to a few of these topics.
