‘Medical issue’ keeps Duk out of Aberdeen FC’s team for their training camp in Portugal.

Jimmy Thelin has disclosed that Duk hasn’t joined his Aberdeen squad for their travels due to a medical problem, reports Scott Burns from Portugal.

The Cape Verde international, who recently publicly requested Aberdeen to sell him as he enters the final year of his contract, has stayed back home instead of accompanying the team to Portugal. Speculation on social media suggested that the striker skipped pre-season training to push for a transfer, but Thelin clarified that this isn’t the case.

Thelin explained, “Hopefully, Duk will rejoin the pre-season camp in Portugal soon, or else he’ll be able to return when we’re back in Aberdeen. He’s dealing with a medical issue. Our medical staff is staying in touch with him regularly, and we hope to help him recover fully and reintegrate into the squad. He’s still training individually but isn’t able to participate fully at the moment.”

Aberdeen’s second striker unable to travel to Portugal is new signing Peter Ambrose, who has stayed in Scotland due to visa issues. Any potential transfer for Duk would be intricate because Aberdeen would owe half of any future transfer fee to his former club, Benfica.
