Recent reports have surfaced suggesting that Mick Jagger, the iconic frontman of The Rolling Stones, has announced the band’s retirement from touring. However, these claims are unfounded. In fact, Jagger, who turned 81 on July 26, 2024, has expressed enthusiasm for continuing live performances. During the “Hackney Diamonds” tour in 2024, he stated, “I just enjoy it… I just love doing it… You get this back and forth with the audience. You can see they’re having a good time, you’re having a good time… and it gives you a lot more energy.”
The “Hackney Diamonds” tour, named after their critically acclaimed album released in October 2023, marked the band’s first collection of original songs in 18 years. The album featured collaborations with music legends such as Paul McCartney, Lady Gaga, Stevie Wonder, and Elton John. Jagger hinted at the possibility of these artists joining the band on stage during the tour, stating, “It’s hard pinning them down.”
Despite the passing of longtime drummer Charlie Watts in August 2021, The Rolling Stones have demonstrated resilience and a commitment to their music. Jagger acknowledged the challenges of continuing without Watts, saying, “It’s going to be very difficult… It’s just so weird and then very sad.” However, he also emphasized the cathartic nature of performing, adding, “You just go out there and rock out and you feel better.”
Looking ahead, Jagger has not ruled out future tours. He mentioned the band’s openness to exploring opportunities in various regions, stating, “We’ll consider those offers, where we’re going to go and where is going to be fun. It could be Europe, it could be South America, could be anywhere.”
In conclusion, contrary to recent rumors, Mick Jagger has not announced an end to The Rolling Stones’ touring activities. On the contrary, he has expressed a desire to continue performing and connecting with audiences worldwide. Fans can look forward to potential future tours and new music from the legendary band.
