Morgan Rielly Hosts Charity Golf Tournament to Support Special Olympics Canada

Morgan Rielly, star defenseman for the Toronto Maple Leafs, continues to make a positive impact off the ice by helping raise funds for Special Olympics Canada. Earlier this week, Rielly organized the second annual “Forty Fore Fall Classic” golf tournament in Gravenhurst, Ontario, drawing participation from fellow Maple Leafs players, including Ryan Reaves and Jake McCabe. This event, which raises funds for motionball, an organization supporting Special Olympics Canada, highlights Rielly’s commitment to giving back.

Rielly took to Instagram to share moments from the tournament, including photos with Maple Leafs’ equipment staff assistant Pete Flagger and Special Olympian Ruby Lappin. His caption expressed gratitude for being part of the Special Olympics Canada family, reflecting the sense of community the event fosters. In addition to the camaraderie, a significant contribution was made, with a cheque for $105,000 presented to the Special Olympics Canada Foundation. Paul Etherington, co-founder of motionball, joined Rielly in the presentation, showing the event’s success in supporting this worthy cause.

Speaking to CTV News Barrie, Rielly emphasized the importance of this cause, stating how meaningful it was to return for a second year to raise funds for Special Olympics Canada. His longstanding involvement with charitable causes shows that his contributions extend beyond hockey, demonstrating his passion for supporting communities in need.

In addition to his charitable efforts, Rielly has previously worked on projects supporting mental health initiatives. In November, he partnered with Peace Collective to launch an apparel line that directed a portion of the proceeds to the Centre for Addiction and Mental Health (CAMH). Rielly has also been a vocal advocate for the LGBTQ2+ community, particularly speaking out against the NHL’s ban on Pride tape last season.

As Rielly enters the third year of his eight-year, $60 million contract with the Maple Leafs, his influence on and off the ice remains significant. A mainstay in Toronto since being drafted in 2012, he continues to be a leader both in the locker room and in his philanthropic endeavors, exemplifying the power of athletes to make meaningful differences in their communities.
