Newsnow: Lobb is enjoying his defensive shift.

Western Bulldogs coach Luke Beveridge commended Rory Lobb, who transitioned from forward to defender, for his outstanding performance against Geelong last weekend. Lobb achieved career highs with 21 disposals, nine marks, 14 intercepts, and three spoils in their 47-point victory, clearly thriving since his recent switch to the backline.

Beveridge emphasized the challenges of not having Lobb in the team, praising his abilities not just as a player, but also as a professional and a person during his post-game media comments.

“Sometimes, being a good human doesn’t always guarantee selection, but I’m thrilled that Rory’s performances now mean his place in the team, if he’s fit, should never be in doubt.

“We’ve discovered a good role for him. I’m delighted that he’s found peace of mind, not just in football and professionally, but in general.

“It’s fantastic – I know our supporters and fans will be thrilled with his contributions.”

Beveridge also acknowledged Buku Khamis’ influence and highlighted the cohesive teamwork of the entire backline group.

“Lobb and Buku were rock-solid. Their performance as key defenders was crucial,” Beveridge remarked.

“The entire backline operated with impressive cohesion and game awareness, which eased their responsibilities,” he added.

“Whether it was the aforementioned pair, Taylor Duryea, Nick Coffield, Bailey Dale, Lachy Bramble, or even Joel Freijah, who is still adapting to this level, everyone played a pivotal role in our defensive unit.”

The Bulldogs’ next test will be against Sydney at the SCG on Sunday afternoon.
