Norwich City newcomer Callum Doyle is eager to turn the tide in their upcoming clash with Blackburn Rovers, viewing the match as a prime opportunity to rebound from a disappointing start to the Championship season. The 20-year-old defender made his debut for the Canaries during their opening day defeat to Oxford United, a result that highlighted the considerable challenge facing new head coach Johannes Hoff Thorup.
Blackburn Rovers, currently riding high after two consecutive victories against Derby County and Stockport, will arrive at Carrow Road full of confidence. Despite this, Doyle sees the match as a perfect moment for Norwich City to demonstrate their true potential, especially after an underwhelming performance at the Kassam Stadium.
Reflecting on the recent defeat, Doyle shared his thoughts on the team’s need for improvement. “We’ve spent a few days reviewing the Oxford game,” he noted. “We all know that our performance was far from ideal. Nobody wanted to start the season on such a low note. This upcoming game against Blackburn gives us a chance to prove ourselves and showcase our abilities.”
Doyle also acknowledged the importance of focusing on both offensive and defensive aspects of their game. “We need to concentrate on how we play, both on and off the ball. It’s crucial that we create more opportunities against a solid team like Blackburn. They’ve made some changes and are different from last season, so we need to be at our best.”
The Manchester City loanee draws some optimism from Norwich’s recent 4-3 Carabao Cup win over Stevenage, a match that marked both his first victory with the team and Thorup’s first as head coach. Doyle featured for 34 minutes, playing in both left-back and center-back positions, and he believes the result has lifted the team’s spirits.
Speaking to the Pink Un, Doyle emphasized the positive impact of the win on the squad’s morale. “It was a good result for us, boosting confidence throughout the team. Although we conceded three goals, they were preventable, and we’ve learned from those mistakes. We’re heading into Saturday’s game with our confidence high and ready to give it our all.”
As Norwich City prepares for their encounter with Blackburn, Doyle and his teammates are determined to put their shaky start behind them and prove they have what it takes to compete at the highest level this season.
