Norwich City’s bid to sign Rennes striker Bertug Yildirim has come to an unexpected halt, as reported by the BBC. Following the departure of Adam Idah to Celtic, Norwich’s manager, Johannes Hoff Thorup, was eager to strengthen his attacking line before the transfer window closed. The club had identified Yildirim as a key target and had even reached an agreement on the transfer fee.
Yildirim, a Turkey international, had only recently joined Rennes, signing a five-year contract with the French club last summer. Despite making 21 appearances in Ligue 1, the 22-year-old struggled to find consistent playing time, accumulating just 453 minutes on the pitch. Norwich was hopeful that Yildirim could bring the needed firepower to their squad and had taken steps to complete the transfer, including conducting a medical.
However, the move has been called off, likely due to concerns arising from the medical examination. This development leaves Norwich in a difficult position as they scramble to find another option to bolster their attack before the transfer window closes.
As Norwich reassesses its options, the focus will shift to finding a suitable alternative to provide Thorup with the necessary reinforcements. With time running out, the club will need to act swiftly to secure a new signing that can meet their needs and contribute to their ambitions for the season.
