The Miami Heat found this year’s draft relatively straightforward compared to previous years.
They had a clear target when they secured the No. 15 pick: it was just a matter of whether their desired player would still be available. As luck would have it, Kel’el Ware from Indiana Hoosiers was there for the taking, making the Heat’s decision easy once their turn came.
“We feel very fortunate that we were able to get the specific player that we wanted,” said Heat team president Pat Riley. “This name kept coming up consistently. The videos we saw were impressive, and his workout here was exceptional. We stayed committed to our plan without wavering.”
Ware was introduced to the South Florida media on Friday.
