PFF Lists the Patriots’ Three Best Players Heading into the 2024 NFL Season.

With the NFL offseason’s draft and free agency now complete, it’s an ideal time to evaluate how rosters have been reshaped over the spring and assess team standings for the 2024 season.

For the New England Patriots, this offseason brought significant changes. They have a new coaching staff, a newly drafted rookie quarterback, and several offensive upgrades, resulting in a noticeably different team compared to last season.

Despite these adjustments, the top talent on the roster remains largely unchanged from 2023. Although some key players were traded, many core members stayed, offering a sense of continuity for fans.

As we approach week one, PFF has ranked the top three players on each team for 2024. For the Patriots, the list features three defensive players: edge rusher Matthew Judon and safeties Jabrill Peppers and Kyle Dugger.

PFF highlighted that despite a disappointing 2023 season, there’s reason for optimism:

“Matthew Judon had a less impressive year but remains a key player for the team. Jabrill Peppers received the highest grade of any New England player (87.3), supported by a 90.7 run-defense grade and an 83.2 coverage grade. Kyle Dugger also underperformed, but his actual ability exceeds the 61.7 grade he received. Rookie cornerback Christian Gonzalez might have been a contender if not for his injury.”

Injuries and inconsistent performances hindered the Patriots’ defense from being among the top NFL units last year. Judon was sidelined early with a torn bicep, and Gonzalez struggled with a shoulder injury. However, with Judon and other key defenders returning, the team is showing signs of improvement.

The Patriots’ secondary also boasts talent, with Peppers and Dugger anchoring the safety positions. Dugger is coming off his best season with 109 tackles, six TFLs, seven pass deflections, and two interceptions. Peppers, entering a critical contract year, had 78 tackles, five TFLs, eight pass deflections, and two interceptions last season. Fans can expect strong performances from both in 2024.

The team’s next objective is to refine the offense, a process already underway with the addition of QB Drake Maye, WR Ja’Lynn Polk, and WR Javon Baker. Their development will be vital to New England’s rebuild.

While the journey back to the top will be gradual, the Patriots have key players that will help facilitate this process.
