Huddersfield Town head coach Michael Duff has expressed his satisfaction with the four summer recruits, stating that they have all “looked really good” since arriving at the club.
The Terriers have acquired Lasse Sorensen, Mickel Miller, Herbie Kane, and Antony Evans this transfer window. The latter three have been with the team since early July, while Sorensen joined in mid-June.
Duff disclosed that Sorensen, Kane, and Evans had “all attracted interest from Championship clubs” before joining Huddersfield Town. Meanwhile, Miller chose to leave Plymouth Argyle after declining a new contract offer to sign with the Terriers. The four new arrivals are now expected to play a key role in aiding their new team’s bid for promotion from League One this season.
“I genuinely believe the four signings have performed really well,” the Terriers’ manager told BBC Radio Leeds. “They’re at the right ages, which was something we identified as a gap in the squad. We had many younger players and quite a few over 30, but not much in between.
“They’re aged 24, 25, 25, and 28, which addresses that gap. Moreover, they’re all good characters, as we want to ensure we bring in players who will fit well with the team.”
“Mickel declined a contract offer from Plymouth, and Antony, Herbie, and Lasse all attracted interest from Championship clubs. They see what everyone else does: it’s an opportunity for promotion.
“We can’t take anything for granted. It’s not a given that we’ll bounce back up just because we’ve been relegated. Teams like Rotherham and Birmingham will have their say, and there are already some strong teams in the league.”
Despite the recent signings, Duff has indicated a desire to further strengthen the squad, with about a month remaining in the transfer window.
“You always want more,” Duff said. “No manager would turn down the chance to sign one or two more players if they had an open chequebook. You’d always find someone to bring in.”
“As the season approaches, we’ll identify which areas need strengthening. Some players might see less game time, which means we’ll need to have conversations with them.”
With the League One season starting in just over a week, Huddersfield Town will play their final pre-season match against Sheffield United at the John Smith’s Stadium tomorrow evening.
Duff’s team will begin their campaign away at Peterborough United next Saturday, but the head coach says he’s not yet focused on the opening match.
When asked last week about his attention on the Peterborough game, Duff responded, “Not at all, to be honest. It’s in the back of your mind, but right now we’re concentrating on ourselves. We’ll focus on that match during the final week of preparation. For now, we’re preparing for every possible scenario.”
