Huddersfield Town head coach Michael Duff believed his team was “well-deserving of the win” after starting their League One campaign with a 2-0 victory at Peterborough United on Saturday.
Goals in the first half from Antony Evans and Ben Wiles propelled Town to the top of the division on the opening day of the season. This impressive away win came against a Peterborough United side that has achieved consecutive play-off finishes in the previous two League One seasons.
The victory marked Michael Duff’s first competitive win as Huddersfield Town’s head coach, and he commended his team’s performance for securing a strong opening-day result.
“It’s always satisfying to get the first one out of the way,” Duff told BBC Radio Leeds. “I thought we were excellent today and deserved the win against a really good team.”
“I felt we demonstrated every aspect of the game. We had to dig in and be defensively solid, pressed well at times, and used the ball effectively, especially in the second half. I was particularly pleased with our performance in the second half; we didn’t sit back. Most of the game was played in their half, and we scored from a second phase of a set play, which is crucial. Overall, it was a solid and well-deserved win.”
Despite his satisfaction with the performance, Duff acknowledged areas for improvement, noting: “Their best chances came from us giving the ball away, and that’s something we need to address.”
“They have some good players, make no mistake, but it’s frustrating when their chances come from our mistakes rather than their own skill. On the other hand, we also had a lot of positive play. We were a threat in various ways—through set plays, counter-attacks, and creating opportunities from some really good football.”
